Just like our puppies and kinder courses, this program assists with a range of knowledge and skills needed for working effectively with your dog.

Course content includes;

  • Overview of how dogs learn

  • loose lead walking

  • Use of marker words and rewards

  • Drop, recall and stay.

  • How dog’s learn

  • The fundamentals of training a dog

  • playing with your dog

Progression

When the instructor assesses the dog as ready to progress, there is the choice of our Grade 1 obedience program or the Good Citizen class.

Good Citizen Class

The good citizen class is open to those handlers who have completed one of our beginner courses, either puppies/kinder or foundation. This course is designed to continue to build your positive relationship with your dog through more complex obedience skills and the addition of dog sport foundation skills.

Good citizen is suited to those handlers not ready or interested in the grading process for the traditional obedience classes. Perhaps you are curious about trick training, agility or the sport of Rally?

How to begin training the basics for these dog sports will be covered eg teaching your dog to spin, put their feet up and improve their recall and stays.

The course runs for 8 weeks. Handlers will then have completed their course work with the club or can return to the Grade 1 pathway or enter a dog sport class.
